Digital Picture Frames…To Take Over the World

December 26th, 2007 by Joanna Stern

wifi fridgeDigital picture frames don’t seem like the sexiest of tech products, but boy are we hearing a lot about them. A search of my inbox came up with ten different vendors showing off recently-announced or brand new digital picture frames at CES. Some of them tout brand XGA, high resolution screens. Others get a bit more fancy like Colby’s Digital Photo Frame that has a Quartz Clock and Mustek’s frame which doubles as an iPod dock.

And NetworkWorld beat me to the punch in talking about digital pictures making their way onto the fridge door. Since magnets were just getting old, Whirlpool is putting screens on their refrigerators.

I am anticipating that we will be hearing a bit more about Wi-Fi integrated photo frames at the show. EStarling will be showcasing their line of Wi-Fi enabled frames that simply let you email a picture to the frame. Fidelity Electronics Inc. also announced that they will be showing off its Shogo Digital Picture Frames which incorporates Wi-Fi. Samsung has recently joined the game with its new 8” Digital Photo Frame SPF-83V, and I expecting the bigger boys to follow suit and join the Wi-Frame playing field.

Maybe the KlearPix, an all-in-one digital picture frame cleaning kit, won’t be as useless as I thought.
